Movie Review : Anchorman 2

Back in 2004, Anchorman was a surprise hit. It was always going to find an audience, with its ‘Frat Pack’ and SNL alumni connections but nobody expected it to be the monster success that it was. In the years since, the movie has taken on cult status and that it why a sequel was such a huge risk. I had only recently seen the original and was less than impressed so I didn’t hold out much hope for Anchorman 2. Ferrell is always hit or miss for me but I went anyway because…… well thats what I do.

Movie Review : The Way Way Back

Duncan (James) is a shy 14-year-old when his mother Pam (Collette) and her newish boyfriend Trent (Carell) take him to a small seaside town for the summer break. This summer is Pam’s way of seeing if they can make it as a family unit. Duncan tries to ignore Trent because Trent is a bit of a wanker. From almost the first scene, we see Trent trying to put down the obviously introverted Duncan. Yeah, Trent is a wanker but Duncan keeps quiet because he wants his mother to be happy.

When they arrive at their summer-house, they are greeted by the deliciously zany neighbour Betty (Janney). Betty is recently divorced and is holidaying with her 2 children, 14-year-old Susanna (Robb) and the younger Peter (Alexander). Be sure to watch for the interactions between Peter and his mother….. they are truly hilarious and Peter is my new hero.

Movie Review: Despicable Me 2 (3D)

This sequel to the 2010 smash hit finds Gru happily settled into suburban family life with his 3 orphaned girls Margo, Edith and Agnes. Now that he is no longer a moon stealing villain, he is trying to produce a line of jams and jellies. One has to find some use for one’s minions after all. But a new super villain has emerged and the Anti Villain League (AVL for short) despatches a new ambitious agent, Lucy Wilde, to bring an unwilling  Gru to its headquarters to help catch the elusive feind.

Gru agrees to help the AVL and with Lucy assigned to help him, is set up as a cup cake store owner in the local shopping mall where it is suspected the new villain is hiding. Gru then attempts to juggle fatherhood, dating and bad guy nabbing.

And the results are absolutely wonderful….
