Movie Review : Non-Stop

Bill Marks (Neeson) is an air marshal who, on a non stop flight from the US to London, receives a message asking for $150 million or a passenger will be killed every 20 minutes. By the time he receives the actual message, we have a list of suspects a mile long. Lots of shady people… people…..suspicious people….. I may never fly again.

Then we find out that Bill is being framed. The account the ransom money is to be deposited into is in Bills name. This changes everything. The pilots have their orders and these do not include the air marshal having a gun or any kind of control on the plane.

But this is Liam Neeson …..

I won’t tell you too much about the plot as I dont want to give it away. Needless to say, someone does die every 20 minutes and in some very unexpected ways. Bill suspects everyone and comes up with some very clever plans of his own to expose the bad guy. He trusts only one person, his overly chatty neighbour Jen (Moore) and even she is never fully relieved of suspicion.

The story moves along at a cracking pace as Bill slowly starts to piece together his evidence and suspicions. Then it all takes a sudden turn and the game changes. He has to rethink and resume control of the plane.

The powers that be try to stand down Bill but he is desperate to save lives and will have none of it. He is obviously well-known to the cabin crew  and more importantly, he is well-respected. This enables him to put into action some of his plans to save the passengers and himself.

It is a very clever script with some sharp twists and unexpected turns. Lets’face it, there is only so much you can do on a flight 30 000 feet in the air. But this baddie manages to pull some major rabbits from his hat. Bill, of course, foils him at every step. Would we expect anything less?

The recent resurgence of Neeson’s career is nothing short of spectacular and he is well suited to these types of roles. He is no longer the sexy leading man but the wise, gruff older leading man with some character and some smarts. Oh hell yeah he is still sexy but it’s the more mature kind of sexy. Me and half the female population likey 😛 He is entirely believable as a grieving, alcoholic father with little to live for and so willing to throw his own life on the line to save others. Redemption perhaps ….

This is a great action flick. It’s fast paced with some fabulous red herrings strewn in our path. Keep your eyes and ears open and trust your instincts. The killer is on the plane and it is not who you think it is.

Or is it exactly who you think it is?

Go see and find out……….
