A remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, this movie looks impressive. From what I’ve read, there doesn’t seem to be an Earth/Mars connection as in the 1990 version but a futuristic nation vs nation scenario. Interesting how so many movies see our future as a One World State/s battling for supremacy. Hmmmm
Colin Farrell, surprisingly third billed under Kate Beckinsale until you realise her husband is the Director, is our hero with Beckinsale as his ‘wife’. For those not familiar with the story, in the future you can have a life or experience implanted into your brain rather than actually doing it. So you can be anyone you want……a spy, an elite athlete, anyone. But Quaid (Farrell) isn’t who he thinks he is……..so who is he? IMDB says:
As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker begins to suspect that he’s a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on.
For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid, even though he’s got a beautiful wife who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man as he finds himself on the run from the police.
